Catching Fire: pages 188-252

We left off were Katniss and Peeta are going off to the Capital once again. This time, they are up against adults and pros. As they return back to the city, their stylist tell them that they are going to be stunning in the show as they walk out. They end up walking out with a costume full of lights that are colors of fire and coal. However, this time instead of holding hands and acting cute. They act mad and just stare off into their destonation. Haymitch and the other helpers are giving Peeta and Katniss more freedom since they are playing against adults and have already been through this all the previous year.

They all enter the training center. Haymitch told them that this year, their strategy was to become friends and make alliances. Katniss and Peeta split up and try to talk to as much people as they can communicating and becoming friends. Katniss was sick of talking so she went to the bows and arrows and shot everything the trainer threw at her. Every tribute is standing around watching her. By the time Katniss and Peeta return to their room, everyone has called wanting to team up with Katniss. However, Peeta and Katniss decide that they do not want to have a alliance, they want to make it through together, just themselves. Haymitch is still going to try to get Peeta out of the arena alive instead of Katniss this time. So Katniss is going to stay in as long as she can.

For the interviews of all the tributes Katniss' stylist puts her in a wedding dress. It's the wedding dress that the districts have chosen for the wedding of the century. Peeta is wearing a nice fancy tuxido that people would wear in the Capital. Way to fancy for people in District 12. As Peeta gets done with his interview, Katniss runs up on stage and talks about the return of the victors. She also talks about how she wore her dress so that everyone can see her in it now since she won't every be wearing it again. As she twirls in her dress it lights up. She keeps twrilling and twrilling, eventually the flames go down and as she looks down, she sees the same out fit except for a charcol grey color. Katniss looks on her arms and she has found wings. Then she realizes that her stylist has turned her into a Mockingjay. The symbol of her and the rebelious people amoung all the districts.

Nothing exciting has really happend. I think that Peeta and Katniss would be better off if they find friends in the arena and make allies so that they can stay in longer. But also all the tributes seem like they would turn on anyone in a second. So actually I think its better if they just hang out and protect eachother. The out fits, well they just sound like they are cool. I wish I had a stylist that could come up with ideas like that. I hope this game goes a lot quicker then in the last book. I want to know who wins and if Peeta and Katniss will be together. Or maybe Katniss and Gale?!

Catching Fire: pages 121-187

Katniss starts off by running into the woods one last time going to go see a house that her and her fatherused to go to when they were out there (her father passed away in a minning accident). When she arrived she meets two girls from District 8. They ended up running away after the uprising and the shooting. They managed to get away my stealing police uniforms. Katniss joined them in the house. She offered them some of her food and they gladly accepted. As they were eating, Katniss asked about the uprising in District 8 and where they are headed off too. They two girls told her that they are headed to District 13 (that district was distroyed). They believe that there are still living people in District 13 because everytime they show a televized interview at the district live, it uses the same footage; therefore, not being live at all! Katniss wishes them good luck amd runs back into town.

When Katniss gets closer to the fence, seh realizes it is full of electricity. There is no way she would be able to get back across without huring herself. Katniss climbs up a tree about 20ft. off the ground and drops hurting her ancle. She returns to her home to be welcomed buy two policemen. All they came to say was that the fence would be with electricity 24/7 and to let Gale know. After that welcoming, Katniss watched the interview with District 13, and realized that it is just footage that they replay over and over again every year. She wonders what it actually is.

 Katniss' make-up and beauty teams arrives to prep her for her photo shoot. She is taking pictures of all of the wedding dresses that her stylist has picked out for her. The next day the photos were being shown on t.v. and they Capital will be able to pick their favorite one that she will wear one her wedding day. Right after that news, the introduction to the third quarter quell. It happens every 25 years and it is always a special event. The first quarter quell there was an election to decide who was going to fight in the Hunger Games. The second quarter quell twice the many kids were put into the arena. For the third quarter quell, there will be returning victors thrown into the arena. This means one boy and one girl from each District. Katniss, Haymitch, and Peeta are the only winners from District 12; therefore saying that Katniss is back in the arena no matter what.

When everyone gathers in the city the next day, they announce who wins. Of course Katniss is going to be in the next quarter quell, and Haymitch was picked to be with her. However, Peeta interviens and volunteers to take Haymitchs place. He does this so that when him and Katniss are in the arena together, He can help protect her. Because of this, they all decide to start training like careers so that they can get better and stronger. Katniss goes and talks to Haymitch privately (since he will be their mentor again this year) about who to protect. Last year Haymitch protected Katniss, this year Katniss wanted to protect Peeta. They both owe him alot so Haymitch agrees to it. As they leave the city, maybe for the last time, Katniss thinks that will be the last time she will see the city.

Catching Fire is interesting. I like the book a lot. It still keeps me interested even though it is kinda like the first book except for there is a lot harder competition in the arena. Instead of have young kids, they are all mostly adults with experience in killing. I really do not like how they are being thrown back into the arena. They just got out and are sick of doing the same thing. I think that once they win, they should stay out for life. I hope that Katniss and Peeta both survive even though I know that won't be possible again.

Catching Fire: pages 1-120

At the end of the previous book, The Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta were faced with coming home to district 12 and not knowing what to expect. Now that they are back things have changed. Because Katniss fooled the Capital into letting two people survive the games, it made them look foolish. They do not like to be messed with. The president, President Snow, came into district 12 to let Katniss know how things are going to be run now. Apparently the skit that Katniss put on in the arena has caused other districts to react and retaliate against the Capital, which is strictly forbidden! Snow came to tell Katniss that she is not fooling anyone with her fake love intrest in Peeta and she better start acting better or people she love will die.

Katniss and Peeta start their trip again. This time it is for the Victory Tour. It is when the victor (or victors in this case) will go to every district and have a celebration in their honor. When they arrived to District 11, Rue's district, someone in the audiance made a noice supporting her and everyone cheered symbolizing the unity of district 11 and 12. This would cause great uproar in the Capital because as the districts unite, the more stronger they get and weaker the Capital becomes. Lets just say that man got dragged off and shot in the head.

The two love birds eventually make it to the Capital , once there they have a dinner in their honor. During this party Peeta decides to purpose to her so that they could convice the President that they were truely in love (Peeta loves Katniss, but Katniss does not love Peeta in return). Snow congragulates Peeta and Katniss and while giving Katniss a firm hand shake he nods to her in approval showing that he believes her now.

They return to the city thinking everything is going good and that the Capital will not interfer with them anymore until the next hunger games begin. They were wrong! Katniss ended up making a plan to run away with Peeta's family and Gale's family to protect all of them just incase. During her planning she hears of an uproar in district 8. She believes that everyone is in danger and it is the best thing to run away into the forest forever.  When Gale and Katniss meet in the woods, Katniss tells gale of this plan and he is on board until she tells him about the uproar in the districts. Gale believes if other districts are doing it, they should too and stealthly declines Katniss' offer to run away.

Once back into the town, Katniss runs to her house all of a sudden to stop and return back to the center. She heard noise not heard before. When she enters the square of the district she sees Gale tied onto a cross and the turkey he killed in the forest right above him. When Gale went to sell the turkey to the mayor, the head police were there and going into the forest was a death crime. Thankfully he told a lie stating that it was roaming around in the district. Yet still a crime, it was less punishable. The head police takes a whip and right before it slashes Gales skin, Katniss steps in and takes the hit for him right across the face. Haymitch also steps in and talks about how he hit the victor. Next, Peeta comes and stands up saying that he hit his fiance. They police guards exit and Haymitch, Peeta, and Katniss take Gale down from the cross and take him to Katniss' mother (she is the nurse/doctor in the town). She fix him up, but he still has substantial amount of pain running through his body.

Catching fire is a book that I would not think would be all that interesting considering that it had to top the first book, which in my case would be pretty hard. But the book so far is doing a nice job of keeping you interested. Also I think Katniss is in a big love triangle right now!! Peeta loves her and so does Gale, but Gale is her best friend and she does not know if she has feelings for Peeta or not, or maybe she has feelings for Gales. She has no clue what she wants! I do no know why but I am leaning towards Gale just because they have been friends the longest and know each other better. Peeta just came into the picture because of the games. But also they have to keep this act up for the rest of their lives and they cannot do that with Gale in the picture. I don't know what she is going to do! Hopefully I will find out in the end of this book.

Catching Fire: prequel

So I am giong to start the second book of the Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins if I did not mention before. I have mostly heard good things about the first and second books. Which if you realized, I really liked the first one and so hopefuly I like the second as well. My brother told me that the second on is alright and the third one was just not that interesting. So I do not know if I am going to read that one. I am not really sure what it is about yet (catching fire). I am guessing that it is about how Katniss and Peeta fall in love with each other or Katniss ends up marrying Gale instead. Some future of Katniss. The mystery of Katniss' future is about to be revealed in the next post.

My week

So I have been running alot lately to get in shape for soccer. Not that fun. If you have ever ran, it sucks! I have to run at least 5 or 6 miles each week. I try to do it in a three day span but it isn't really working. I ran on monday and wednesday but I really wanna skip friday. I already had soccer practice tuesday and thursday. WOW. My week is full of excercising! Monday, run two miles and soccer games at the dome. Tuesday, soccer practice for an hour and thirty minutes. Wednesday, run two miles. Thursday, soccer practice for an hour and thirty minutes. Friday, run two miles. I know you wish you had my work out schedule. Weekends, no running at all! This was the first week of my soccer practice. It has been torture. I have been running for a few weeks now but I do not know what has gotten in to me. My inner thighs are SO sore and tender. Then my shoulders are as tight as can be. Hopefully next week will be better!

The Hunger Games: pages 247-374 (end)

There are six tributes left in the arena. And Katniss and Peeta are two of them. Because of the new rule, Katniss searches for Peeta and ends up finding him blending in perfectly into the ground hiding. When she cleans him off in the stream near by, she sees wounds and stings for the tracker jackers. She heals these wounds, but has trouble healing a wound from Cato. He saw that Peeta was protecting Katniss and ended up slashing Peeta's leg pretty good. Katniss gives Peeta a kiss and in return, the recieve medicine to reduce healing for Peeta's leg. Katniss figured out that a kiss equals a present from their supporters.

After all the cleaning and applying the medicine, they build a fort camoflaged into rocks near by. They stay there for a few days while recovering. Katniss would go out and hunt and gather food for the both of them. A few days there was a big storm so there could be no hunting or anything. They were running low on food so they needed some from their supporters. And that is what they got.

Every year there is a dinner in the arena where tributes gather to fight. By coming, they will recieve a backpack with something they desoeratly need. Since Peeta was dying Katniss new she needed to go. When she they backpacks arrive, she ran to get hers but was stopped with a knive to the forehead by Cato's partner Clove. Clove wanted to make a show out of Katniss' death; however, Rue's teammate heard Clove talk about Rue and he came over and smashed Cloves face with a rock killing her. Katniss gets up a runs away before Cato comes running to save Clove.

Katniss gets back to the rock fort and passes out from all the blood loss. She wakes up to Peeta calling her name. She was out for a couple of days, loosing hunting time. While resting, the night sky lights up with the deaths for that day. Clove and Rue's partner with both gonners. That means that Cato got his revenge. There are now only four left. Cato, another girl who is staying clear, Peeta and Katniss.

Once Katniss and Peeta are healed they go out hutning. Peeta gathers berries and other leaves while Katniss goes and hunts. When she returns she sees Peeta coming out of the bushes and ask him why the cheese is somewhat gone. It was not him who has eaten it. Katniss notices that the berries next to the cheese on the ground are poisoned. They will kill someone right as they eat it. A few seconds later a cannon blast indocating someone is dead, and the body is recovered a few yards from where they were. The berries ended up kill the mysterious tribute. Cate, Katniss, and Peeta are left.

The next morning when Katniss and Peeta wake up, the stream has drained forcing them to go to the main lake where Cato is. This is what the gamers had in mind to speed up the results. Once they reached the river they hear Cato running for his life, but when Katniss shoots with an arrow he does not die. Cato has armor around his body. All of a sudden Katniss and Peeta see these big wolf looking things emerge from the forest and they also start to run to safety. They jump onto building where they can not be eaten. Cato is higher up on the building so  Katniss tries to shoot him with an arrow  but it is useless. All of a sudden Cato grabs Peeta with a knive to his neck. Katniss is reading to shoot Cato in the face with an arrow but knows if she does Cato and Peeta will both be lost to the big wolves. Katniss ends up shooting Cato in the hand and he drops the knive and ends up falling to the wolves. With his protection he puts up a fight but gets dragged off. A day later there has still not been a cannon fire. A few seconds later Cato appears in the tree line. Katniss aims her arrow and shoots Cato in the head. Katniss and Peeta are the only two left.

The annoucer comes on and says they took a look at the rule change and it will not stand. There can only be one winner of the Hunger Games. They did not actually mean for both tributes to make it to the end. During this Katniss and Peeta were arguing over who would die. But in the end Katniss comes up with a plan like always. They take the poison berries and put them in there mouth at the same time. Right after the announcer returns and says nevermind!!! It stands. Katniss and Peeta both spit out the berries and rinse out their mouths so they would not swallow any. They tricked the gamers into letting both tributes win. In the end Peeta finds out Katniss was faking liking him just so she could make it through the games while his feelings were real. THE END OF THE FIRST BOOK.

So I did not really like the ending. The book was good and Katniss is very smart for being from district 12. I can not wait to see what happens in the second book. I did enjoy all of the action in the arena also the alliances. There was also no hints to what comes next, which is what I like because it takes me by surpirse. I hope if you read this book you like it as much as I did. Time for book two!

The Hunger Games: pages 148-244

The first thing Katniss remembers before entering the arena is her trainer saying run. Right when the bell rings, run as far away from the center as possible and to get away from other tributes. The next thing was to find water. Well while standing there, Katniss sees a bow and arrows, which is her experties. She can not miss a shot with those. But she knows that she would get killed if she tried. The bell rings. She is running away and sees a bookbag and is fighting with another boy until he gets stabbed right infront of her. She grabs it and runs!

Every shot fired from the arena means one person is dead. On the first day, eleven. They also showed the pictures of the ones who died in the sky. Peeta and Katniss were still alive. After she got free from all the tributes with the bookbag she stops and sees whats in it. There was a sleeping bag which she used to tie in a tree and sleep in. This was her tactic. As she was in the tree the first night, she sees a fire. Short story, that girl gets killed by a gang of tributes. The alliance was made between all of the career tributes and Peeta. The only reason why they let him go is to lead them to Katniss. Which he would never do because he was starting to grow fond of her.

Katniss is starting to become dehydrated and is begging for water. She knows that there is one lake by the start, but does not want to risk going back there. She keeps moving forward. Finally she reaches a stream and drinks as much water as she can. She is also running low on food to eat.

To get the games back up again and exciting, the gamers will put opsticals out there if no one has been killed for a while. For Katniss, they put up a wall of fire right where she was sleeping. She ran as fast as she could from it but ended up getting burns on her legs and arms. She hears people comming her way and drags herself into a tree. The career tributes find her. They let her stay up there all night becuase they know she can not go anywhere if someone was on watch and she would soon die. While up in the trees, Katniss sees another tribute watching her. Her name is Rue, and she is pointing to something right about Katniss' head. It is a hive full of tracker jackers. These are like wasp who inject venom into the skin creating a huge bump. You only can survive a few stings. Katniss thinks of an idea. She takes the branch and cuts it where the hive is and drops it onto the ground where all of the careers  and Peeta are.

Katniss sees the bow and arrows right beneath her feet. Once all of the careers and tracker jackers are she drops down from the tree and tries to grab them, but Peeta and Cato, the main career, burst through the bushes. She pulls the arrows hard and run with all of her might. She has been stung a little so she starts to get a little wabbly. Again, she sees someong through the bushes after a long run. Rue was staring at her. They deciede to make an alliance themselves. Rue helped Katniss with the tracker Jacker stings and, Katniss helped Rue catch animals. They come up with a plan. They have to get rid of the careers food supply.

Rue is going to set up three fire camps to draw the careers away while Katniss shoots the supply with her bow and arrows making the explode. The plan goes fine, expect Rue's last fire did not egnite and Katniss is going deaf from the explosion of the food. Katniss gets up and runs to her and Rue's meeting place, but Rue is no where to be found. The next morning Katniss gets up and start to look for her. All of a sudden she hears a scream for her name. Before she could reach to the opening, Rue was caught in a net with a spear in her stomach. Without thinking Katniss puts an arrow right in his neck. She stays with Rue until her time came. Katniss realised... that was her first kill of the games. A few minutes later the announcer comes on saying there has been a rule change, if two people from the same district are left, they will both win the games. Katniss immediately starts looking for Peeta, who is also still alive.

Alot happened in this book. Too much for me to put into one blog. I did read all of it already and it was great! I just do not want my blog to be like 1000 words. Thats a little too much. But I really enjoyed the action going on in the arena and the struggles that Katniss an everyone else had to go through. I do not like Cato at all! He is a butt. I knew from the start Peeta was going to do something to keep Katniss out of trouble. He has had a crush on her since he was five. Of course he was going to keep her alive.

The Hunger Games (pg. 61-147)

So starting off chapter five, they are in the capital and are getting all pretty for the grand opening of the games. During the begining of the games they have a ceramony to introduce all of the tributes. These are the people who are playing. All the tributes have to look stunning because by having this introduction will depend on how many supporters you have. The more supporters, the more supplies you can recieve in the arena. Cinna is district 12's stylist. He put both, Katniss and Peeta in flaming fire suits. They also had to pretend like they were friends and work together on everything. This was one of their stratigies.

During chapter six through eleven not much happens, they get into their trianing center and start learningn stratiges on how to win the games. In one part, the tributes all go down together in one room and there are different stations. You can either learn how to do something you do not know how to do, or you can show off your skills. Most of the careers showed off, but Katniss and Peeta were told not too. That could make them intemidating to the other competaters. However, there was another session were you could show the judeges your skills in private. They will rate the tributes from 0-12, tweleve being the best. District 12 went last in showing the judges. Once the judges made their choice, it was shown on t.v. Katniss recieved an eleven. After that, Peeta deciedes that he would rather train seperatly from Katniss. This ment WAR!

At the end of chapter eleven, Peeta and Katniss are put in rooms to themselves and taken to an unkown location. All of the other tributes are going to the same place. Once they arrive, they are set in other rooms where they can say their last goodbyes to their team. After time is up, they are sent up a dark tunnel in a tube. At the end of the tunnel is light. All of the sudden the annoucer says, "Ladies and gentlemen, let the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games begin."

The action is starting to come! That is what I enjoy most out of books. I know it is always slow at the begining but it always gets really good and I can not but the book down. I know once the Hunger Games acturally start I will not be able too. I am liking this book a lot more then I did at the begining. I would recemind it too any one who enjoys none stop thrillers.

The Hunger Games: pages 1-60

So far in the hunger games there is the main character named Katniss Everdeen who is a poor outlaw from district 12. There was a battle went on ages ago and Panem, the country they live in, ended up breaking up into thirteen districts. There is also the main government who lives in the Capitol. This is where the main Hunger Games are held. The Capitol invented these Hunger Games to show that the Capitol is incharge and it is also there to keep the districts inline with the government. These Hunger Games were fought to the death. Whoever went in was most likely going to die and not come back out. There were tewnty six kids going in and only one would survive the killings of vicious teenagers.

Katniss has a littler sister  named Prim. Prim just turned tweleve. One boy and one girl will be picked for the Hunger Games from each district. The children are between tweleve and eighteen. Katniss is sixteen. She goes out hunting with one of her friends, and going out of the district to hunt is illegal. She does this so that they can survive without dying of hunger and starvation. When time came to choose the the players for the Games, everyone gathers around the main building to see who the contestents are. They announce Prim is the young girl contestent, until Katniss steps in and says she will volunteer. They guy picked was Peeta Mellark, a guy Katniss was aware of from class. This begain the competition.

Peeta and Katniss are stuck in to seperate rooms after knowing they are the chosen ones. They say goodbye to their love ones for possibly the last time. Afterwards, they get all dressed up and ride a train many miles away from their district to the Capitol. This is were they meet one of the survivors and winners from a privious game from their district, Haymitch. He is a drunk so when he is supposed to help them survive and tell them good hints, he just drinks and gets intoxicated. GOOD LUCK IN THE HUNGER GAMES!

This book is interesting because it has inbraced how it is to me a teenager trying to care for younger ones. It also keeps the reader interesting because they think they know what is going to happen but they still are not sure. I enjoy books that keep me interesting and that are mystery to my mind. This story, I know will just keep getting better and better as I read on. I just wish that the interesting and exciting stuff would come sonner into the story, but I know they are just getting the story and plot situated.
